What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4:
Precinct 4 Forward Internship Program ( P4FIP) , is an 9-week paid summer internship for students with a passion for serving others.
We’ve designed our program to expose students to career opportunities with Harris County and apply what they have learned in the classroom to hands-on projects. P4FIP provides students the chance to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical professional experience. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
Interns will create a community to help support their personal and professional development throughout the summer as they launch their career. Interns will work with a mentor, form relationships with other interns, and engage our Senior Leadership Team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the EHS & Emergency Management manager to update and maintain precinct 4's safety and emergency management documents.
- Support projects by coordinating tasks, tracking progress, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Work closely with the EHS & Emergency Management manager.
- Assist with planning, organizing, scheduling department specific safety training for the precinct.
- Assist with organizing, placing, and tracking safety supply orders for the Precinct.
- Assist with scheduling and performing safety audits of precinct facilities and preparing audit reports.
- Attend various safety and emergency management meetings on and offsite.
- Assist in evacuation drills and planning.
- Assist with the management of the chemical inventories and safety data sheets.

Requirements
Internship Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in an educational institution and working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in a Safety/EHS or Emergency Management related discipline
- Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Ability to work in and facilitate cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Capacity to speak effectively before groups or employees of the organization.
- Detail oriented.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Respectful of and diligent with confidentiality and sensitive information.
Preferences
Education:
- Taken courses in Safety/EHS, FEMA ICS ( preferred )
- Knowledge of OSHA, FEMA, DOT policies, procedures, and guidelines ( preferred )
- Resident of Harris County Precinct 4 ( preferred )
