The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician is responsible for performing routine specialized and detailed GIS mapping and analysis duties. The GIS Tech develops and maintains geographic data for transportation planning and civil engineering design projects using various ESRI technologies. The incumbent will assist with addressing specific problems to be solved, such as development of transportation planning and modeling, marketing and demographic mapping, or assessment of geologic and environmental factors.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs routine GIS mapping and analysis duties including maintaining GIS data, preparing and producing maps, data entry, updates, maintenance, and data analysis. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of the GIS databases (metadata) for each data set.
- Generates GIS products including maps, geo-datasets, graphics, displays, tables, and reports; uses GIS software to enter, edit and update GIS data, including points, lines, polygons, and attribute data following standard procedures.
- Assists with preparing, updating, revising, designing, and maintenance of maps, surveys, plats, legal descriptions, codes, decisions and reports; supports the interpretation and digitization of remotely sensed data, aerial photography, and satellite imagery.
- Uses GIS software to geo-reference digital maps to align right-of-way (ROW) or engineering plan sheets with real ground locations based on applicable data.
- Operates GIS equipment, including large format printers, scanners, storage media, and viewing devices.
- Addresses specific problems to be solved, such as development of transportation planning and modeling, marketing and demographic mapping, or assessment of geologic and environmental factors.
- Performs other duties as required.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Five (5) years' related experience in geographic information systems or surveying.
- Valid Texas driver's license.
- Understands and can use a linear referencing system.
- Must be strong in using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online.
- Must have basic knowledge of Network Analyst Extension, Cogo tool & Georeference tool.
- Must be able to create and use tables and be able to join or relate them to other datasets.
- Knowledge using AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GIS principles and mapping software.
- The position is physically comfortable.
- The individual has discretion concerning sitting, standing etc. when operating in an office environment.
- Visits to property sites require good mobility in and around the site locations to include periods of prolonged standing and possible movement up and down stairs.
