What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Paraprofessional/Bldg Substitute (23G-Grant Funded) position at Harrington Elementary?

NATURE OF POSITION:
The paraprofessional will assist in the educational needs of students and serve as backup, when needed, to support the classroom in the absence of teachers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree; OR 60 credit hours from a degree granting college/university
- Ability to receive a substitute permit from the State of Michigan
- Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), preferred but not required
- Parental experience desired but not required
- Ability to work well with children and adults
- Maintain a general interest in helping children in their educational process
- Calm and patient demeanor
RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in individual or small group pupil instruction
- Assist classroom teacher(s) in maintaining discipline and supervision in the classroom
- Assist in escorting students to and from various rooms, when necessary
- Demonstrate initiative and creativity with student(s)
- Serve as substitute teacher in the event of a lack of teacher coverage in the building
- Adhere to district health and safety procedures
- Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the principal and/or classroom teacher(s)
