What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Commercial Estimator position at Harpeth Painting, LLC?
Senior Commercial Estimator
Harpeth Painting LLC — Nashville, TN | Full-Time | $100,000
About Harpeth Painting
Harpeth Painting is a Nashville-based commercial painting contractor that has built and intentional business — by being the partner that shows up, executes on complex work, and finishes on time. In commercial construction, that reputation is everything. Our general contractor partners don't call us because we're the cheapest bid; they call us because they trust us to protect their schedule and deliver a finished product they're proud to hand over to an owner.
We specialize in technically demanding commercial projects where the margin for error is low and the expectations are high. Over the years, we've become a go-to subcontractor for GCs across the Nashville market who need a painting partner they can count on — not manage. That reputation has taken years to earn, and it's what drives our continued growth.
The Role
This isn't a plug-and-play estimating seat. You'll own the full estimating function — building accurate bids across a diverse project mix, improving how we approach the estimating process, and directly influencing our revenue pipeline. You'll work closely with ownership and project management, and your wins will be felt across the entire company.
You'll be responsible for:
- Producing detailed, competitive estimates for commercial painting projects of all sizes across Nashville and surrounding markets
- Build relationships with General Contractors to broaden and deepen our existing network.
- Conducting site visits, reviewing plans and specs, and scoping work with precision
- Building and refining estimating systems, templates, and processes that scale
- Managing the bid pipeline, deadlines, and relationships with GCs and owners
- Collaborating with project managers to ensure handoffs from estimate to execution are seamless
- Identifying where we should — and shouldn't — be bidding
What We're Looking For
You have:
- 5 years of commercial painting estimating experience (or closely related commercial specialty trade)
- A track record of winning bids across a mix of project sizes — from quick-turn commercial work to complex, multi-phase contracts
- Strong takeoff skills and an eye for scope gaps that hurt margins
- The ability to read drawings, specs, and addenda without hand-holding
- Excellent communication — you can represent Harpeth professionally in front of GCs and owners
- Self-direction — you manage your own deadlines and don't need to be chased
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with estimating or takeoff software
- Experience in the Nashville commercial construction market highly desirable
- Background in painting or coatings is preferred but, but experience with other compatible trades will be considered as well.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $100,000 (commensurate with experience)
- Performance bonus — tied to company performance
- Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
- Vehicle/gas allowance
- Paid time off
- A seat at the table in a growing company where your work has real impact
Why Harpeth Painting
We're not a revolving-door contractor. Our team is tight, our reputation is strong, and we invest in the people who help us grow. If you're a sharp estimator who's tired of being a number at a large firm — or stuck doing rote bid work without any ownership — this is a role where you'll matter.
Harpeth Painting LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
