Experienced book publisher sought for an exciting role with leading inspirational publisher, HarperCollins Christian Publishing’s Gift division made up of Thomas Nelson Gift and Zondervan Gift. Our award-winning publishing team creates beautiful, faith-based books in the areas of devotionals, lifestyle, seasonal, and titles for every gift occasion. Our stellar author roster includes Max Lucado, Lysa TerKeurst, Sadie Robertson Huff, Louie Giglio, Emily Ley, Billy Graham, and many other amazing communicators.
The Gift Publisher role includes long-range strategic planning; leading the team in successfully acquiring, developing, and publishing approximately 40 new books—plus managing an extensive backlist; and overseeing the publishing program to meet the annual revenue and profit margins, as well as understanding and reporting on the division’s financials monthly. In addition, the Publisher is personally responsible for identifying, pursuing, presenting, and acquiring 10 top-level books and brands each year and managing relationships with some of the imprint’s key authors. The Publisher is tasked with developing and growing a dynamic and best-in-class team.

Qualifications
Knowledge: Working knowledge of business metrics, expertise in publishing for all genres but most importantly those related to high design color and giftable titles. Understanding of retailer needs (e.g. Mass market assets/timing), HCCP competencies, and new business opportunities.
Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of publishing experience, with 3 to 5 years in a leadership role that included budget planning and forecasting as well as P&L responsibility. At least 5 years of book acquisitions experience, prior business acquisition history, proven partnership development expertise, comprehensive networking skills. Supervisory experience managing multiple direct reports. Preferred: work in high design publications, demonstrated knowledge of the Christian publishing industry.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, degree in Business, English, Journalism or Marketing strongly preferred. Additional training in business management or fundamentals of finance/accounting is desirable.
Industry Knowledge: Working knowledge of the publishing industry and operational success factors. Knowledge of the four-color and high design book market required and Christian publishing industry, preferred. Understanding the changing retail environment and its implications and key factors for business growth.
