What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor IV - SOAR+ position at Harper College?
Overview
Partners in the development of the Differentiated Communication Care Plan for the SOAR Program in conjunction with the Student Success department and executes on communications by leveraging the CRM (Salesforce, Starfish, etc.) and other systems to support the timely dissemination of communication to students throughout each semester.
Provides educational planning for new and currently enrolled students in the SOAR Program using the CONNECT holistic advising approach. Assists them by creating semester-by-semester academic course schedules that meet the requirements of their intended major and, if applicable, transfer school.
Facilitates SOAR Program orientation sessions to ensure that students have a strong foundation to start their journey at Harper College.
Processes all weekly advisor assignments for the SOAR Program, monitors caseloads, informs leadership of critical information regarding trends and issues occurring with caseload distribution. Performs advisor reassignment process including student outreach.
Serves as the main processor of the UNX and SAP process with the Financial Aid team.
Provides advanced holistic academic advising expertise regarding the essential use of technology tools and systems (Starfish, Degree Works, Banner, etc.).
Provides backup and support to Systems Manager in areas of configuration, testing and advising expertise to inform best practices around advising systems use for case management.
Receives escalated concerns and serves as a lead advisor capacity for Academic Advisor III’s in the SOAR Program pertaining to complex advising situations. Intercedes, when needed, and provides guidance toward resolution in collaboration with other campus partners.
Provides oversight and collaboration for Front Desk Operations as directed by the Director of the SOAR Program and provides support for questions and escalations as needed.
Serves as back up, when necessary, to the Manager of Advising Systems on key SOAP processes that may require manual updates in the Student Information System, generation of reports and mass communication with students in the SOAR Program.
Supports training with newly hired staff members and maintaining new hire training procedures and protocols.
Answers questions about Harper College policies, procedures, academic programs of study and support services provided by the College.
Attends conferences and other events to develop skills and aptitudes around advising systems, holistic advising, and/or first-year experience programming.
Stays current with training and professional development related to holistic advising practices, student success/retention, data management, and related topics.
As staffing and peak periods necessitate, check-in and schedule advising appointments, answers phone calls, and supports visitors at the SOAR Front Desk.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily indoors and sedentary in nature.
Equipment/Tools Used
Utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, in order to perform the duties of the job.
Supervision
Under the general supervision of the Director of the SOAR Program. Receives oral and written instructions as needed.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in psychology, education, communications, or related area required.
Experience: Must be a current lead advisor, with at least two years experience. Five years or more experience in student advising function at Harper College or other higher education institution, preferably at the post-secondary level. Must have expertise and proficiency in advanced analytics and interpretation of data using Power BI. Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills.
