Project Manager
This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and supervision of activities and budgets related to the construction of civil infrastructure including pipelines, highways, tunnels and drainage structures. The Project Manager will support the field staff to ensure that deliverables are completed so as to not divert crew production. Developing schedules with the Superintendent that include cash flow forecasts and concepts of how to manage changes without impacting the schedule.
Project Manager responsibilities include but not limited to:
Operations/Field Management:
· Evaluate estimate/budgets & identify gains and losses, modify and finalize budgets prior to upload.
· Review/verify proper coding for HCSS bid & facilitate the upload.
· Prepare baseline schedule w/ milestones & revenue.
· Identify long-lead materials & prioritize those PO's.
· Create letters of intent to key suppliers/vendors/subs, as necessary.
· Conduct internal preconstruction meeting and ensure checklist is completed before construction begins.
· Reviews and approves Field Logs IN B2W ensuring accuracy and notifying Project Engineer of discrepancies. Review daily equipment on-site to verify the usage justifies the cost to the project.
· Identifies hazards and safety concerns, addressing issues in advance, engages Superintendent as needed. Focus on trench safety, traffic safety, fall protection, confined space, caught in between, and proper PPE incident awareness.
· Mentor and train staff to meet expectations set in the policy & procedures manual and the project’s RACI Matrix. Hold Project Engineer’s and Superintendent’s accountable for their responsibilities.
· Oversee the financial aspect of projects managed by his/her staff, ensuring project’s financial goals are met.
· Create baseline CPM schedule with team and project cashflow and cost loaded schedules.
· Estimate work using HCSS Heavy bid under the direction of the Division Manager.
· Prepare and facilitate monthly financial meetings with cost and revenue projections.
· Review material tracking logs as required to ensure budget compliance.
· Review and approve change estimates in HCSS and placeholder PCO’s in Viewpoint.
· Review Project PCO/COR log for weekly meeting with team and Owner.
· Review RFI's with Superintendent and Project Engineer for consistency with HBC standards.
· Review and approve Subcontractor Pay Apps & verify expenditures vs schedule progress.
· Review and approve draft monthly project billing, ensuring all quantities are billed to the Owner.
· Manage and own closeout process w/Superintendent as well as prompt retention payment.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or similar education that trained critical thinking skill
· Valid Driver License and insurable driving record
·A minimum of five years’ experience in civil scopes of work across construction projects of varying size and scope. Experience in the public heavy civil sector is highly preferred
· Ability to multi-task, manage competing priorities under pressure, quickly study and react to complex issue
· Possess judgment to appropriately escalate issues with a keen sense of urgency and initiative
· Knowledge of construction contracts and procurement methods and nuances of how each type affects project delivery: D/B, GMP, LS, Cost Plus, Unit Price, T&M
· OSHA 30 HR, trench safety training, First Aid/CPR training
· Computer skills include HCSS Heavy Bid, B2W Track, Bluebeam, Office 365, Primavera P6, Teams & Viewpoint.· Ability working in an outdoor environment with risks of exposure to loud noise, extreme weather conditions, and proximity to heavy equipment
