The Drama/Theatre Teacher provides instruction in Drama and Theater Production

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Education: A Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet and maintain credential requirements. 2. Credential: An appropriate, valid, California State Teaching Credential to teach Drama/Theatre at the assigned grade levels. 3. Experience: A minimum of the completion of all student teaching required for the appropriate teaching credential. 4. Personal Characteristics: Appearance, grooming and personality that establish a positive example for students. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisor or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic achievement, and classroom performance of the teacher.

Comments and Other Information

Major Duties and Responsibilities: • Develop curriculum that integrates with scope and sequence of Harmony Union’s Place Based Learning program and State Drama/Theatre Standards • Select, organize, manage, and direct multi-grade casts for plays performed for a public audience • Teach Drama/Theatre in a classroom utilizing the course of study adopted by the Governing Board, and other appropriate learning materials and activities. • Supports student development in social emotional learning through drama/theatre. • Creates and environment that fosters creativity and positive self-image. • Provides planned appropriate learning experiences that motivate students and appropriately utilize the available time for advancement in the academic discipline. • Communicates an understanding and appreciation of a democratic way of life. • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides appropriate instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students. • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom, which is conductive to learning. • Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports that communicate student achievement to parents/guardians. • Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, motivational, and learning challenges • Maintains professional competence through participation in staff development activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instructions. • Creates and maintains an effective learning environment. • Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. • Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Participates in conferences when needed to discuss the individual student progress or the Drama/Theatre program. • Participates cooperatively with the principal or his/her designee to mutually develop the system by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with the district guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
