GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the First Steps Director. The First Steps Program Assistant assists the Director in the daily activities of the First Steps Drop-In Center.
37.5 hours per week
$15/hour
DUTIES
- Operate as a member of the First Steps and Harmony House teams, striving at all times to provide quality services to those experiencing serious mental illness and/or homelessness.
- Engage and register visitors to the drop-in center.
- Sort and distribute mail.
- Answer telephone and provide information and/or assistance to callers. Record and distribute messages.
- Maintain snack bar inventory, receive money, and assist customers, as needed.
- Facilitate and/or co-facilitate educational groups.
- Provide peer support.
- Assist director in planning activities.
- Assist with data gathering and reporting.
- Maintain drop-in center cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and cleaning bathrooms and windows.
- Communicate emergent client issues with team members and other members of Harmony House staff to best meet needs of clients.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Attend Frontline Lunch Bunch Meetings, as directed by director.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of Harmony House services and policies.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in establishing and maintaining relationships with those experiencing serious mental illness.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, clients, and officials of other social service agencies.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to take directions from many persons, yet work independently. Must be able to function as a team member.
- Knowledge of peer support techniques.
- Abide by all personnel policies, as stated in the Harmony House Employee handbook.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED.
Experience providing consumer operated services preferred.
Proficiency in administrative and clerical procedures and systems, such as word processing systems and filing and records management.
Valid driver’s license
