Hospice Medical Director

Job Summary

Duties

• Provide clinical oversight and supervision of hospice care teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with primary medical directors, interdisciplinary teams, and external partners to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA, FDA regulations, NCQA standards, and other relevant legal frameworks.
• Lead utilization management efforts by reviewing medical records, supporting appropriate resource allocation, and optimizing patient outcomes.
• Participate in clinical research initiatives to advance hospice care practices and contribute to evidence-based improvements.
• Manage medical records documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
• Support hospital experience integration by supervising clinical development programs and promoting continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Oversee budget planning related to medical services, ensuring efficient resource utilization aligned with organizational goals.
• Supervise medical staff, providing mentorship, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering professional growth through leadership.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology essential for effective clinical decision-making.

Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution with valid licensure in relevant jurisdiction.
• Proven experience in managed care settings with a strong understanding of healthcare management principles.
• Demonstrated expertise in hospital-based care, clinical research, and medical management within a hospice or palliative environment.
• Extensive knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology necessary for comprehensive patient assessment.
• Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR systems for documentation and data analysis purposes.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.
• Supervising experience in a healthcare setting coupled with leadership capabilities to motivate staff and drive quality initiatives.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security are maintained at all times.
• Experience with utilization management processes including review of medical records for appropriateness of services.
• Ability to navigate FDA regulations relevant to hospice medications and treatments; understanding of NCQA standards for healthcare quality assurance.
