JOB TITLE: Ophthalmic Technician
The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job and should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of this position.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Ophthalmic Technician assists the Optometrist or Ophthalmologist with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease via supplementary patient management, entry level testing, utilization of diagnostic equipment and the fitting of ophthalmic devices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs ocular photography and ophthalmological diagnostic tests.
- Collects information from patients requested by the optometrist/ophthalmologist.
- Documents patient ocular and medical histories.
- Check’s patients’ vision and measures lensometry
- Check intraocular pressure as required by the provider
- Performs ocular fundus photography
- Produces stereo slit lamp photography.
- Administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the provider for testing or treatment.
- Performance of various ophthalmological diagnostic tests, including but not limited to, tomography, ultrasound, ERG, visual fields, ophthalmic coherence tomography
- Performs HRT’s (Heidelberg Retinal Tomography) tests.
- Assist in the fitting and dispensing of ophthalmic devices
- Counsel and educate patients by reiterating physician orders for eye care.
- Maintains complete records of procedures performed on patients.
- Assist in patient flow and templates as required by the provider
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Two years of experience performing ocular photography and ophthalmological diagnostic tests.
- Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant by the JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology).
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
