What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Support Specialist-ASES position at Harmonium Inc.?

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the safety, security and well-being of each child enrolled in the ASES

program. The Program Support Specialist- ASES will provide support to Site Directors, programs and

directly oversee the Youth Leader - sub team. Responsibilities include timely completion of paperwork,

supervision and interaction with staff and students on a daily basis, individually and via group. The

Program Support Specialist - ASES provides stability, structure, training/coaching and organization to the

sites, staff and students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of staff and students

● Open/close the site as needed

● Maintain a clean and orderly designated space

● Direct supervision of Youth Leader Sub - ASES Team

● Ensure program compliance through observations, on site coaching, auditing of student files, sign-in sheets, etc.

● Apply progressive disciplinary procedures including Employee Corrective Counseling, while providing strength based support

● Monitor and ensure employees’ timecards are accurate and approved in a timely manner

● Supporting additional tasks as directed

JOB COMPLEXITY

● Evaluate, develop and implement improvement plans for assigned sites

● Supervise day-to-day activities of the Youth Leader Sub - ASES

● Provide regular supervision to reinforce strengths and work on challenges with subordinates

● Develop and implement action plans, trainings, program activities, etc.

● Manage student-staff ratio

● Manage attendance records and program compliance requirements at sites

● Ensure all administrative paperwork is accurate and completed on time

● Work effectively across all program service areas for Agency wide effective communication and operations

● Under HR’s direction will participate in preparing and reviewing in any legal related matters

STAFF SUPERVISION

● Responsible for supervising, coaching, training, directing and evaluating staff

● Responsible for holding regular Supervision Meetings to ensure consistency amongst staff as well as to review policies and procedures

COMMUNICATION

● Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff, parents, and children

● Create and distribute program information internally and externally, including; on-boarding, forms, sign-in sheets, newsletters, calendars of activities, etc.

AGENCY LEADERSHIP

● Adhere to fiscal and Harmonium policies and procedures

● Advance the Agency’s mission, vision, initiatives and core values within respective role

● Act as a role model for staff

● Provide overall control and direction of staff on how to interact with internal & external customers

DECISION MAKING

● Judgments and decisions are guided by Harmonium and program policies, contracts and guidelines

MINIMUM COMPETENCIES

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

● Must be 18 years of age

● Must have 48 completed college units OR pass the District’s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (a basic math and literacy exam)

● Must have either a minimum of 6 completed units in child development, elementary and/or middle school education, recreation or related field OR a minimum of 6 months documented work experience in an ASES program

● A minimum of 2 years experience working in an after school or group childcare setting with elementary aged children and/or middle school aged children

● A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY

● Ability to relate well to children and adults

● Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills

● Excellent oral and written communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON HIRE

● Valid CPR and First Aid certification

● Valid TB results (required every 4 years)

● Must receive Fingerprint Clearance (paid by Harmonium)

● Must have reliable transportation to travel through San Diego County; when using personal vehicle, must maintain valid driver’s license and current auto insurance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

● Ability to operate a vehicle

● High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks

● Ability to work in noisy and outdoor environments

● Ability to travel throughout the county with the flexibility required to meet job duties

● Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping, i.e., desk and computer functions

● Ability to sit for prolonged period

● Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds

● Ability to operate a computer

● Occasional standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching above and below the shoulder

COMPENSATION.

  • Starting Rate: $28.00 per hour (all new hires begin at starting salary regardless of experience)
  • Full Time benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and critical illness insurance, a 403b retirement plan plus match, and Vacation & Sick time. In addition, we offer hands-on training, virtual courses, and live presentations for personal and professional development.
