Harmoni has pioneered a new category of industrial technology called factory orchestration. Built on three pillars - automation, process control, and observability - Harmoni gives operators a centralized command center at each machine, uses RFID to automate non-productive tasks, ensures only the correct engineering documents reach the workcenter, and integrates ERP, machine, operator, and locating data into a real-time visual view of factory performance. Our platform spans edge devices on the shop floor to cloud dashboards in the front office - and we're looking for a senior developer who can move fast across the entire stack.

Job Description

We're hiring a Senior Software Developer to join our Akron-based team and play a central role in building and scaling the Harmoni platform.

This isn't a traditional write code line-by-line role. We operate as an agentic-first development team, meaning we leverage AI coding agents as a core part of our workflow. We define requirements, orchestrate multiple parallel AI agents across different tasks, review and verify their output, and ship high-quality software at a pace that traditional development can't match. If you haven't fully embraced agentic coding yet, this role probably isn't the right fit.

What You'll Do

- Define and orchestrate agentic workflows - Break down features into clear, structured requirements that AI coding agents can execute. Launch multiple agents in parallel across different parts of the codebase, manage their context, and verify the results.

- Build and maintain platform services - Work across our Node.js/Express backend, React and Vue frontends, and MySQL database layer to deliver features, integrations, and improvements.

- Own full-stack delivery - From data pipeline logic and API design to UI components and database schemas, you'll work across the entire platform.

- Design integrations - Build connectors to ERP systems (Epicor, Infor, Odoo, and others), machine communication protocols (OPC-UA, MTConnect, Modbus), and third-party APIs.

- Contribute to developer tooling - Help refine the workflows, templates, and pipelines that make our agentic development process effective - including MCP servers, project management tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.

- Collaborate in person - Work alongside the team in our Akron office, participating in architecture discussions, code reviews, and hands-on problem solving.

What We're Looking For

Required:

- Must be a US citizen

- 7 years of professional software development experience

- Deep Node.js expertise - You've built production systems with Node.js and can navigate complex async patterns, streaming, and event-driven architectures

- Proven agentic coding proficiency - You actively use AI coding agents (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, or similar) as your primary development workflow, not just for autocomplete. You can demonstrate experience defining requirements for agents, running parallel agent sessions, and verifying output quality

- Strong backend fundamentals - Express.js, RESTful API design, middleware patterns, authentication/authorization

- Relational database experience - MySQL query design, schema modeling, migrations (experience with Knex.js is a plus)

- Modern frontend development - React (including hooks, custom hooks, context API, Material-UI components) and/or Vue.js

- TypeScript - Strong typing, interfaces, generics, and working in a fully typed Node.js codebase

- Linux fundamentals - Comfortable with the command line, SSH, file systems, process management, and basic system administration

- Git proficiency - Branching strategies, merge conflict resolution, working with worktrees, and managing multiple parallel branches

Strongly Preferred:

- Experience with workflow orchestration systems (Temporal.io, Airflow, or similar)

- Familiarity with industrial protocols - OPC-UA, MTConnect, Modbus, or similar machine communication standards

- Experience building data pipelines - ETL processes, data transformation, and routing systems

- Understanding of microservices architecture - service boundaries, inter-service communication, shared libraries

- Experience with containerized deployments - Docker, Balena, or similar platforms

- Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and tool-based AI agent architectures

Nice to Have:

- Redis experience (caching, pub/sub, or session management)

- Python experience (we use it for some machine adapters)

- Chart.js or other data visualization libraries

- ERP integration experience (any system)

- IoT or manufacturing domain knowledge
