Position Overview
The Solar Technician will support the field team during all stages of site construction. Responsibilities include verifying layout measurements, inspecting racking and panel installation quality, coordinating with contractors, documenting progress, and assisting with testing and commissioning activities.
This role is field-based and requires a strong understanding of solar construction workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Support & Technical Oversight
- Monitor daily progress of racking, module installation, trenching, and equipment staging
- Verify installation is following engineered drawings, layout plans, and specifications
- Conduct quality checks on racking, modules, wire management, and grounding systems
- Help resolve field issues by coordinating with project management and contractors
- Assist with layout verification (survey stakes, stringline checks, row spacing, etc.)
Documentation & QA/QC
- Maintain daily field reports with photos, measurements, and observations
- Track construction milestones and production metrics
- Document any deviations, deficiencies, or rework items
- Monitor inventory and delivery of major components (racking, modules, hardware)
Commissioning Support (Non-Electrical or Electrical — your choice)
- Assist with inverter, combiner, and system startup checks
- Support insulation testing, continuity checks, and functional testing (if electrical included)
- Coordinate with utility and third-party engineers for inspections and acceptance tests
- Help prepare punch lists and confirm closeout requirements
Safety & Compliance
- Monitor field safety compliance and report unsafe conditions
- Ensure all work meets project, manufacturer, and code requirements
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience in solar construction, electrical construction, industrial construction, or related fields
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, site plans, and spec sheets
- Strong understanding of solar components (racking, modules, inverters, wiring paths)
- Proficiency with field tools such as levels, multimeters (if electrical), GPS/RTK (optional)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Preferred:
- Previous experience on commercial or utility-scale solar projects
- OSHA-10 certification
- Experience with QA/QC or commissioning workflows
- Familiarity with software such as Procore, RaptorMaps, AlsoEnergy, DroneDeploy, or similar
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction site with variable weather conditions
- Physical work including walking the site, climbing ladders, carrying light tools
- Close coordination with subcontractors and project managers
Compensation & Schedule
- Hourly/Salary: $25-35/hr
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends as needed
- Project Duration: 3-6 months
