What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANNING TECHNICIAN I (PERM/FT/BENEFITS) position at Harford County?
Planning Technicians perform clerical support along with para-professional planning work in the field of land use, zoning, subdivision, environmental, community development, historic preservation, or transportation planning. Work requires knowledge and application of the Harford County Zoning Code, subdivision regulations, and related processes, and an ability to read maps and plans. Work requires extensive interaction with the public, property owners, attorneys, developers, builders, real estate agents, appraisers, and other State and County employees.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a high school or equivalent plus two (2) years of relevant experience
OR
A.A. Degree in a planning or related field such as geography, environmental science, or engineering and NO experience
LICENSE:
Valid Class C non-commercial driver’s license with no more than three (3) points. Please be advised this position requires a valid Class “C” driver’s license. Your application will not be considered if you fail to include the full driver’s license number on the electronic application.

COMPENSATION:
Other compensation may include but is not limited to:
- Receive and review preliminary subdivision plans, plat records, and other applications for completeness of information and compliance with established zoning laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Respond to routine inquiries concerning subdivision and zoning regulations and processes.
- Assist in the performance of field investigations as needed.
- Prepare maps for inclusion in planning reports and presentations.
- Knowledge of basic planning and zoning principles and practices
- Knowledge of the County’s development process
- Knowledge of the County’s Zoning Code and Subdivision regulations
- Skilled in basic customer service etiquette
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to enter data, maintain records, and research archival information in various formats
- Ability to thrive in a team environment, foster and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of planning tools, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Laserfiche, and other proprietary software utilized for tracking development and permitting processes
- Knowledge of relevant software applications such as Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of office management systems and procedures

Salary : $40,000 - $43,000
