POSITION SUMMARY:
The Judy Center Family Outreach Interpreter supports the mission of the Judy Center Early Learning Hubs by facilitating effective communication between staff, families, and community members. This role provides Spanish language interpretation and translation services to enhance family engagement, access to educational resources, and participation in learning opportunities aligned with Maryland Early Learning Standards. The interpreter assists in outreach efforts to Spanish-speaking communities, supports school-based learning activities, and helps families connect with community resources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides direct support to families and children in learning opportunities, workshops, and family engagement sessions based on the Maryland Early Learning Standards.
Facilitates communication between Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) employees, teachers, students, clients, and the public by providing world language interpreting and translation services. Translates the spoken words of students, parents and clients into English.
Provides Spanish language interpreting and translation services for the Harford County Judy Centers. Assists clients in accessing community resources for learning and recreational purposes.
Contacts families and schedules appointments to facilitate participation in the Judy Centers programs and family support activities. Provides written translation services as needed.
Provides advice and guidance to agency staff and employees regarding language interpretation issues.
Assists in school learning activities to include assisting students individually or in groups to reinforce the learning situation established by the teacher. Reads to students and assists them in effectively using school resources and facilities.
Assists in developing outreach plans for foreign language speaking communities. Participates in community outreach with partners to promote the Judy Center Early Learning Hub services and recruits future Judy Center families.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of one or more of the following: American Translators Association (ATA) Translator Certification, Certified in Public Service & Educational Interpreter Training, master's degree in Interpretation/Translation, or Certified as a Court Appointed Interpreter.
- A minimum of two years of related experience in a school setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of Spanish and knowledge of the educational process and system.
- Skill in fluently speaking, reading, and writing a world language, specifically Spanish and English. Skill in translating written documents from Spanish into English and from English to Spanish.
- Ability to work effectively with HCPS students, teachers and program staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, the families of students, clients, the public, and others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Available to work flexible hours that will include evening meetings, events, and/or work sessions both in and out of the county.
- Ability to travel between Judy Center Early Learning Hubs in Harford County as needed.
Salary : $40,000 - $70,000
