About the Job
The EHS Specialist will develop, coordinate, and implement environmental, health, and safety training programs with policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective EHS operations in the organization. Monitor environmental safety, and health regulations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
The ideal candidate will facilitate organizational EHS programs and policies that are meant to prevent environmental violations, injuries, fires, or other workplace incidents; ensure compliance with internal EHS policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations; and establish departmental policies, practices, and procedures that have a significant positive impact on the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees implementation of EHS program across all manufacturing and warehouse locations, audits current work practices; Develops and executes strategies to drive continuous improvement.
- Communicates regulatory expectations, and ensures all plants are following all Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
- Manufacturing: Environmental: Internal subject matter expert and responsible for permitting, waste management programs and all environmental related matters to support all manufacturing process. (Specific knowledge, experience in plating process preferred)
- Warehouse: Strong focus on development and execution of PIT and warehouse related safety programs.
- Metrics: Develops and drives strategies to drive both leading and lagging EH&S metrics.
- Design of Work and Culture: Work with site leaders to ensure safe design of standardized work, and proper safety mindset and behaviors
- Contributes during accident/incident Investigation/Root Cause Analysis, creates OSHA forms.
- Conduct EHS-related reviews/ Audits/manage equipment and supplies program and ensure safety committees are meeting and meaningful.
- Provides Emergency Response and coordination
- Provides EHS support for training and employee awareness. Develops and executes training plans tailored to the specific topics needs of manufacturing, warehouse, and office personnel.
- Chair Operations EH&S Steering Committee and provide leadership of site-specific Safety committees and continuous improvement processes
- Participates in corporate initiatives and program development as required.
- Reviews and communicates compliance in the form of monthly reports for training, EHS assessments, and other leading indicators.
- Ensures all Workers Compensation Claims are handled appropriately, including medical billing. Participates in state Worker’s comp meetings.
Required Skill Set/Knowledge/Expertise:
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental sciences or chemical engineering preferred.
- 5 years EHS industry experience in a industrial manufacturing environment.
- 3-5 years of experience auditing plant safety, hearing, and other EHS issues in manufacturing, including Safety program/committee administration,
- Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, HASMAT, MSD, Fire, and Safety/Ergonomics, personal protection, LOTO issues in plants.
- Knowledge of state and federal health and safety regulations and their impact on operations.
- Knowledge of Worker’s comp, and typical medical ramifications as it relates to insurance.
- Knowledge of the safe work behaviors and interpretation of EHS data.
- 2 years’ experience developing training materials and delivering training on EHS related activities.
