DEAN OF STUDENTS – HARDIN HIGH SCHOOL
Applicant must have a valid Montana Educator License with any secondary curriculum endorsement. POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Dean of Students
FACILITY: Hardin High School
REPORTS TO: Principal, Superintendent
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The person in this position supports the academic mission of Hardin High School, develops programs and services that foster educational growth, and ensures that students are appropriately placed into intervention classes. This individual promotes a respectful and inclusive environment, and enriches the overall student experience at Hardin High School. The Dean of Students creates an environment that is kindly conceived with well-executed co-curricular programs to help students succeed in their academic and personal pursuits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
After School Program/Summer School Coordinator
- Work with After School Program Supervisor
- Check grades and identify students who need to be in the afterschool program on a bi-monthly basis
- Assign students the days they need to attend and inform the student
- Send letters home to parents/guardians of the assigned days the students need to attend
- Make sure students and teachers are aware of the program and consequences of missing the assigned days.
- Keep track of grades after the first two weeks of the semester
- Schedule teachers to work Monday through Thursday beginning the third week of school - Schedule math two days a week (Monday & Wednesday), English (Tuesday), Science (Tuesday and Thursday), and History/Government (Wednesday).
- Keep track of teacher hours worked and submit claim forms
- Works with counselors implementing remote leaning and credit recovery options and enrollments
- Maintain communication with students and parents/guardians
HiSet Options Coordinator
- Meet with principal and guidance counselors to establish a list of students for the HiSet Options Program
- Meet with students and parents/guardians to review HiSet Options and OPI Contract
- Provide OPI with a roster of the HHS Students enrolled in HiSet Options by due date
- Register students with PSI and establish their test accounts
- Register students for testing
- Work with principal to verify successful completion of all required HiSet Tests
Student Success
- Make a list of qualifying students each quarter
- Work with community on incentives for SUCCESS STUDENTS
- Create and hand out SUCCESS CARDS each quarter in assembly or other way for recognition
- Multi-Tiered System of Support
- Work with Response to Intervention consultant and Literacy Coach to implement MTSS plan
- Data and Building Leadership Team member
- Attendance (9th and 10th Grade)
- Collaborate with Assistant-Principal and Attendance Secretary in notification of excessive absences
- Implement Attendance Policy
- Keep track of students’ attendance and notify parents / guardians of potential
Fall Reports
- Work with Principal
Effectiveness Report
- Work with Principal
- Prepare document for final approval by the Principal
- ACT Data
- Keep reports on file for reference
- Keep track of Action Plan
- Update Action Plan according to results
- Indian Education for All Support
- Act as a resource person to help teachers and staff to infuse Indian Education into the curriculum

Valid Montana Teacher Certification, Administration endorsement preferred

Compensation: Salary Range SY26-27- $43,063-$69,444
Credit on the salary schedule will be given for up to eleven (11) years contracted teaching experience. A bonus of $2,500.00 will be added to the contracted amount for those teachers who hold an MA degree.
Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program: Hardin Public Schools receive federal Title 1 funds which is one criterion for eligibility in the Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program.There is also the possibility of qualifying for the critical teacher shortage loan assistance program. Several positions in our District may/will qualify.
School Districts 17H & 1: Our Districts have strong academic programs utilizing a variety of techniques for our students. There are programs for special education students and vocational students. There are a variety of music, drama, art, and sports opportunities for students of all ages. We are a Class A district, early childhood (age 4) through 12th grade, with approximately 1,700 students. The student body is 84% Native American.

Community: Big Horn County, Montana is rich in history, culture and time-honored traditions. It Includes the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Reservations. Hardin (county seat) is situated on the banks of the Bighorn River and the edge of the Crow Reservation. The town is surrounded by productive farms and ranches. Coal mining has also contributed greatly to the local economy. Hardin, is located 46 miles southeast of Billings (largest city in the State) by way of Interstate 90. The Big Horn County Museum, Little Big Horn Battlefield and Chief Plenty Coups State Park provide interesting and important history of the area. The scenic Big Horn, Pryor and Wolf Mountain ranges are part of the Big Horn County landscape. Yellowtail Dam offers a majestic view of the water below.
