CLASS TITLE: ASSISTANT BAND DIRECTOR (1, 2, 3)

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assist band director in various secondary school marching/music programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist in promoting band activities in the school and community
• Assist the band director in planning the music program
• Assist the band director in organizing and supervising practices
• Assist the band director in teaching individual fundamental skills, team plan, team strategy and rules and regulations
• Assist the band director in teaching good sportsmanship and self-control.
• Assist in checking eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.
• Assist students by providing a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Conduct learning experiences, under the direction of the band director, with small groups of students
• Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of student musicians
• Perform related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Fundamentals of various music programs
• Health and safety regulation
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy

ABILITY TO:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance
• Assist the band director in one or more areas of the music program
• Understand and follow oral and written directions
• Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
• Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or G.E. D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law and 64 semester hours.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of criminal record check, AIDS awareness training, and current certification in first aid and CPR.
