Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Small Engine Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of small engines and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will help keep our customers’ outdoor power equipment, hydraulic units generators, and other small engines running smoothly.
- Diagnose issues with small engines, including gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, using schematics and technical manuals
- Perform repairs on various equipment such as chainsaws, generators, and other outdoor power tools
- Conduct routine maintenance including oil changes, spark plug replacements, belt adjustments, and cleaning
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, soldering irons, and heavy lifting techniques to complete repairs efficiently
- Interpret technical schematics and electrical diagrams to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems
- Repair heavy machinery components like heavy-duty equipment when necessary
- Communicate clearly with management about repair needs, timelines, and maintenance recommendations to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
- Maintains inventory records on repairs made, parts ordered, and parts inventory
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Two (2) years’ work experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of small equipment, both diesel and gasoline type engines and hydraulic equipment
- Proven service technician background in small engine repair or automotive repair is highly preferred
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering techniques
- Familiarity with schematics, electrical systems, diesel engine repair, and vehicle maintenance procedures
- Ability to lift heavy components safely and perform physically demanding tasks regularly
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to management
- Knowledge of equipment repair including generators and other outdoor power tools is desirable
- Thorough knowledge of concrete equipment
- Ability to create effective working relationships with employees; able to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Possess a valid Driver’s License, Pre-employment drug screen and background check when site specific
