This position will be a hybrid work arrangement. You will receive 18 remote workdays per quarter to use at your discretion, subject to manager approval. For example, you may choose to work in the office 4 days per week and take one remote day weekly (typically 13 weeks per quarter), leaving 5 additional remote days to be used as needed.
HarbourVest is seeking a Principal to join its newly-formed Boston-based Private Credit Secondaries team. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a founding team within a well-established investment platform, using HarbourVest’s strengths within secondaries and private credit.
The ideal candidate is someone who is:
$285,000.00 - $330,000.00
This USD base salary range represents only one component of total compensation for this role and is provided in accordance with local requirements. This role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, which is determined based on individual and overall firm performance. In addition to salary and bonus, total compensation may include eligibility for long-term reward programs and a comprehensive total rewards package that may include retirement, health, insurance, paid time off, and wellness programs. Our total rewards offerings are influenced by several business factors, and eligibility for certain components will vary by position and geography. Please note the posted ranges do not apply outside the U.S. and should not be converted to other currencies as a proxy for compensation in other countries.

- Identify, source, evaluate, sponsor and complete LP-led and GP-led credit secondary investments
- Develop and use a network of relationships to drive proprietary and intermediated credit secondary deal flow
- Participate in industry events to build and represent the HarbourVest credit secondary brand
- Monitor existing investments and support ongoing portfolio management efforts
- Participate in fundraising efforts globally
- Assist in the build of the HarbourVest Credit Secondaries business
- Assist in the management and professional development of less senior investment staff including direct reports
- Oversee the recruiting and training of new employees
- And other responsibilities as required
- 10 years of relevant experience in private credit, secondaries, investment banking (leveraged finance, financial sponsors, or M&A) or private equity
- Strong academic background with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and a track record of high achievement
- Solid financial modeling and quantitative skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Team-oriented attitude with a willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
- Boston ties or interest in being in Boston preferred
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or equivalent experience
- 10 years of relevant experience preferred
