POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Operationally Related:
Assisting the Dockmaster with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the docks/marina.- Assisting the Dockmaster with assigning and directing boaters to the appropriate slips, including transient.
- Assisting arriving and departing guests with docking and undocking.
- Sharing applicable information to those docking at the property (where to check in, marina guidelines, things to do in the area, etc.).
- Processing reservations according to length of boat, length of stay, and weather conditions.
- Entering information into software accurately.
- Answering the fuel dock phone and the dock radio.
- Pumping out holding tanks of vessels.
- Assisting in overseeing the safety and security of docked vessels.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the dock areas and its equipment.
- Completing daily dock check using a checklist. Making note of findings. Shares any safety related concerns or concerns about equipment to the Dockmaster.
- Performing light maintenance within the dock areas as needed.
- Assisting boaters with requests for fuel.
- Periodically doing inventory of materials and equipment at the direction of the Dockmaster.
Assisting in other departments as needed.
Guest Service Related:
- Initiating conversations with guests and owners, thanking them, anticipating their needs, seeking their feedback, and taking appropriate action. Consistently practicing the “10 and 5 rule,†referring to the guest by name, making appropriate eye contact, and displaying positive/welcoming body language when doing so.
- Approaching all interactions with guests, vendors, and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous, professional, business-like, service-oriented manner.
- Obtaining the necessary knowledge to provide information and recommendations to guests and owners via phone, email, and in person regarding the property, rooms, rates, amenities, the local area, events, activities, dining options, and directions.
- Greeting guests and owners and provides a first point of contact to the property in a manner that creates an excellent first impression.
- Resolving the concerns of both guests and owners according to organizational guidelines in a manner that is both effective and tactful, being sure to utilize the assistance of management as needed.
- Remaining available to guests and owners at all times while on the clock.
- Working effectively with other departments and team members and establishing good working relationships with them to best meet the needs of guests and best facilitate a positive working environment.
Taking initiative in finding tasks to work on during slower times and seeking ways to better enhance the guest and owner experience.
It Also Involves:
- Arriving to work as scheduled and following the attendance guidelines.
- Attending meetings and trainings as requested.
- Practicing all safety guidelines of the organization and reporting safety concerns to management.
Adhering to organizational guidelines/policies/expectations as well as federal, state, and local laws.
The dock assistant must have practical experience with docking procedures, including tying lines, handling fenders, and assisting vessels safely into slips. This position must work on July 4th. The dock assistant is punctual, dependable, and motivated to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient dock environment. The dock assistant also practices strong communication skills and is comfortable answering calls and communicating over VHF radio professionally and courteously.
