What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Manager position at Harbor & Pine Collective?
Build a community people want to return to.
Harbor & Pine Collective is a small Jacksonville-based company creating workshops, pop-up events, and digital spaces for local entrepreneurs, independent creators, and growing small businesses.
We’re hiring a Community Manager who can turn introductions into relationships and everyday conversations into a strong, welcoming community. You’ll manage our online channels, support members, organize events, and help make Harbor & Pine feel personal as we grow.
This is a hybrid position based in Jacksonville, Florida. Candidates should live within commuting distance of our office and be available for occasional evening events.
What the Role Feels Like
On Monday, you might welcome new members and introduce them to people working on similar projects. On Wednesday, you could publish an event announcement, answer questions in our online group, and coordinate details with a local speaker. By Friday, you may be hosting a community meetup and collecting ideas for the next one.
You’ll have plenty of independence, but you won’t work alone. As part of a small team, you’ll collaborate directly with the founders and contribute to decisions about events, partnerships, content, and the overall member experience.
What You’ll Do
- Welcome new members and help them understand the community, its resources, and upcoming opportunities.
- Manage conversations across email, social media, and private community channels.
- Respond to questions with a warm, helpful, and consistent voice.
- Plan virtual sessions, local meetups, workshops, and member networking events.
- Coordinate event calendars, registrations, speakers, reminders, and follow-up communication.
- Create posts that highlight member stories, local businesses, useful resources, and community news.
- Encourage thoughtful participation and help quieter members find ways to get involved.
- Moderate discussions and address inappropriate or disruptive behavior fairly.
- Build relationships with local organizations, creators, and potential community partners.
- Gather member feedback and turn recurring suggestions into practical improvements.
- Track participation, event attendance, engagement, and member satisfaction.
- Share weekly observations with the team, including what members are discussing and where they need more support.
The Community You’ll Help Shape
Our members join because they want useful connections and a sense of belonging. They stay when the experience feels thoughtful, relevant, and human.
You’ll help establish the rhythm of the community: when we gather, what we talk about, how new people are welcomed, and how members discover one another. You’ll also protect the culture by setting clear expectations and making sure conversations remain respectful and constructive.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in community management, events, customer experience, social media, hospitality, or a related role.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- A natural ability to make people feel welcome without forcing interaction.
- Confidence leading group conversations both online and in person.
- Good judgment when handling complaints, disagreements, or sensitive situations.
- Strong organization and dependable follow-through.
- The ability to write clear, engaging posts in a consistent brand voice.
- Comfort working independently and changing priorities when a small team needs help.
- Genuine interest in Jacksonville’s creative and small-business community.
Helpful Experience
You may have worked with:
- Community platforms such as Circle, Discord, Slack, or Facebook Groups.
- Event tools such as Eventbrite, Luma, or Meetup.
- Email platforms such as Mailchimp or Klaviyo.
- Social scheduling and basic content-design tools.
- Community surveys, engagement reports, or membership programs.
- Local partnerships, sponsorships, or ambassador initiatives.
Formal community management experience is welcome, but it isn’t the only path into this role. Experience in education, nonprofit programs, coworking, events, or hospitality can be equally relevant.
The Hybrid Schedule
You’ll work from our Jacksonville office on designated collaboration and event days, with the rest of the week available for remote work.
Most work will take place during regular business hours. Some community events may happen in the evening or occasionally on weekends. When that happens, your schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
What Success Looks Like
After your first few months, new members should feel welcomed quickly, events should run smoothly, and conversations should remain active without feeling manufactured. You’ll know the names, interests, and concerns behind the engagement numbers—and the team will have a clearer understanding of what the community values.
