SUMMARY

Informs and educates communities throughout Kankakee and Iroquois Counties about domestic violence, teen dating violence, early intervention and prevention strategies. Provides education on healthy relationships, identifying healthy emotional regulation, boundaries, and personal safety across the lifespan, including presentations for toddlers and families, grade school students, junior high and high school youth, and college students. Recognizes, responds to, and refers individuals who may be in need of Harbor House services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Presents prevention and education programs to target groups including schools, universities, youth groups, and family-centered programs within Kankakee and Iroquois Counties. Coordinates trainings and presentations with the Community Advocacy Team.

Develops, markets, and provides prevention and education programs for schools, youth, families, community organizations, special needs groups, and other approved audiences.

Leads trainings on topics such as healthy relationships, emotional regulation, bullying prevention, identifying red and green flags in relationships, recognizing signs of dating violence, how to support a friend experiencing violence, and types of abuse, including digital abuse and cyberbullying.

Engages students and youth in violence prevention and encourages and assists them with youth-led violence prevention education projects amongst their peers.

Establishes, nurtures, and maintains good working relationships with other community agencies/organizations that focus on youth of all ages (school districts, teen groups, etc.).

Collaborates with other agencies/organizations to increase domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking awareness and prevention efforts.

Assists coordination and staffing of informational tables and events utilizing volunteers.

Attends meetings/trainings relative to position as assigned.

Maintains statistics and complete reporting of activities as directed.

Maintains facility, staff, volunteer, and client confidentiality at all times.

Operates within a flexible schedule since presentations may be required during the day or in the evenings.

Remains informed of domestic violence issues; attends in-service trainings.

Performs job responsibilities to maintain an atmosphere of cohesiveness.

Travels throughout Kankakee and Iroquois Counties is required. Mileage is reimbursed.

Must work well independently and be able to execute tasks with minimal supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or at least three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIREMENTS

Unless exempted by the Americans with Disabilities Act, all persons hired for this position are required to perform the following essential functions:

Lift up to 50 lbs. on an as-needed basis;

  • Perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, vision on a frequent basis;
  • Perform repetitive motions (i.e. computer keying and/or dialing phone) on a frequent basis;
  • Stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch on an occasional basis; and
  • Sit for long periods of time.

This position requires exposure to the following environmental factors:

  • Normal office conditions;
  • Exposure to variable noise levels;
  • Environment may include possible exposure to communicable illnesses; and
  • Traveling in an automobile in various weather conditions.

This position requires the successful completion of multiple types of background checks. Advancement through the interview process or any offer of employment is contingent upon the results of these checks.
