Activities Assistant, Full Time at our Harbor House location 11 Condito Road, Hingham, MA
Seeking energetic, hard-working self-starter to develop and implement activities for residents! Must be available for weekend and holiday rotation.
POSITION SUMMARY
Primary responsibility of this position is to provide scheduled group activities for residents, including those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
. Ability to communicate English, verbally & written.
. Preferably 2 years satisfactory employment as a recreation assistant in an elder or Alzheimer care facility.
. Experience in leading group recreation programs for elders or memory impaired clients.
. High School Diploma or GED.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly and at times emotionally upset people within the center.
- Understand the approach and structure of recreation for Alzheimer's groups
- Encourage, but not force, participation in therapeutic recreation groups.
- Implement and lead activities of therapeutic recreation according to monthly schedule and scheduled hours
- Must move intermittently through the work day
- Push residents in wheelchair weighing up to 300 lbs
- Assist in planning and implementation of organized program for recreation
- Assist in providing a planned resident-specific, goal-directed recreation program
- Write recreation progress notes
- Assist in developing a written comprehensive plan of care for each resident that identifies the problems / needs of the residents and the goals to be accomplished
- Transport residents to and from recreation program
- Maintain composure in emergency situations
- Assure confidentiality of all residents
. Manage time efficiently
- Consistently work cooperatively with residents, families, and staff
- Be able to take direction and work as a team
- Preferably two years of experience in a long term care or Alzheimer’s/Dementia care facility leading group recreation programs, or similar experience. Training and support will be provided.
