Special Education Paraprofessional
Required Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent plus a passing score on paraprofessional certification test, or a Paraprofessional Certificate, or Sixty (60) hours of college credits
Related experience in the field of education preferred
Must be physically able to perform job duties as necessary according to the needs of the students
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Essential Job Responsibilities
Maintain order with the students assigned for supervision
Diaper, bathroom, and perform health tasks as assigned
Tutor students on lessons determined by the teacher
Help maintain a positive classroom environment
Monitor student for health problems if assigned
Assist teacher with organizational and instructional needs in the classroom
Assist students in the general education classroom and other settings as assigned
Maintain accurate records and data regarding students
Work as a member of the team with the teacher
Maintain confidentially
Participate in ongoing professional development
Supervise students in halls and playgrounds and other unstructured areas as assigned by the teacher
Conduct student classroom observations using appropriate rubrics
Assist in the functional assessment process
Assist in developing appropriate instructional or behavioral materials using audio and video media to reinforce the student’s I.E.P. (i.e. charts, tapes)
Collect and chart data
Provide information and feedback to the teacher regarding student progress
Work well with others
Perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
Perform assigned tasks with a high standard of quality
