Responsibilities
- Provide daily care and feeding for a variety of animals, ensuring their health and well-being through proper husbandry practices.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, recognizing signs of illness or distress and reporting findings to veterinary staff as needed.
- Assist with habitat maintenance, including cleaning enclosures, planting native flora, and managing environmental conditions to mimic natural habitats.
- Support scientific research activities by collecting data on animal behavior, conducting field research, and assisting with wildlife monitoring projects.
- Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools like ArcGIS to map habitats and track animal movements for research purposes.
- Administer medications and perform restraint procedures following veterinary protocols to ensure animal safety.
- Participate in educational programs by providing information about species conservation, habitat preservation, and animal care to visitors or researchers.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in outdoor work environments such as zoos, farms, or wildlife reserves.
- Strong knowledge of animal physiology, anatomy, behavior, and handling techniques.
- Familiarity with scientific research methods including data collection, statistical analysis, and laboratory procedures.
- Experience with plant identification, horticulture, and habitat management is preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy objects, working in variable weather conditions, and diving operations if applicable.
- Knowledge of environmental law, wildlife regulations, and conservation practices is advantageous.
- Excellent writing skills for report documentation and research publications.
- Veterinary experience or pet care background is a plus.
