Happy Tails is a trusted pet care facility offering high-quality dog daycare, boarding, grooming, and training services. As our Training Department continues to grow, we're looking for a passionate, knowledgeable, and compassionate Dog Trainer to join our team.
At Happy Tails, we are committed to force-free, reward-based training methods that help dogs and their families succeed through positive, science-backed techniques. Our training team is led by an experienced Training Manager who provides guidance, support, and consistency across all training services.
Position Overview
As a Professional Dog Trainer at Happy Tails, you'll work closely with our Training Manager to provide exceptional training services for dogs and their owners. You'll conduct training sessions, educate pet parents, and help dogs develop lifelong skills using positive reinforcement methods.
This is a commission-only position with estimated average earnings of approximately $18 - $20 per hour, based on client volume and completed training services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct behavior evaluations for new training clients.
- Recommend appropriate training programs based on each dog's needs.
- Lead private training sessions using force-free, reward-based methods.
- Coach pet parents on how to continue training successfully at home.
- Maintain accurate training notes, progress reports, and client communication.
- Build strong relationships with clients and encourage continued training success.
- Collaborate with the Training Manager and other Happy Tails departments to provide consistent care.
- Uphold Happy Tails' positive reinforcement philosophy in every interaction.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of professional dog training experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of positive reinforcement and force-free training methods.
- Ability to evaluate canine behavior and adapt training plans to individual dogs.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Patient, reliable, and team-oriented.
- Comfortable working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
- Certification through a recognized training organization (CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, CTC, etc.) is preferred but not required.
- Availability to work full-time.
