Position Summary:
Happy Haven Daycare is seeking a reliable, nurturing, and energetic Assistant Teacher or Substitute to support daily childcare operations. This role involves assisting with the care and supervision of children ages 6 weeks to 12 years in a safe, structured, and engaging environment. The ideal candidate is flexible, patient, and passionate about working with children of various ages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in supervising and caring for children in a mixed-age group setting
- Support daily routines including meals, naps, diapering, and toileting
- Help implement age-appropriate activities, play, and learning experiences
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
- Ensure children’s safety at all times, both indoors and outdoors
- Model positive behavior and assist with gentle guidance and redirection
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, and staff
- Follow all daycare policies, procedures, and licensing regulations
Substitute-Specific Duties (if applicable):
- Step in as needed to maintain proper supervision ratios
- Adapt quickly to established routines and expectations
- Provide consistent care in the absence of regular staff
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Experience working with children preferred (babysitting, daycare, school, etc.)
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must pass background check (if required by NYS regulations)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs (infants, toddlers, equipment)
- Comfortable sitting on the floor, bending, and being active throughout the day
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
Schedule & Benefits:
- Flexible part-time hours and/or on-call substitute opportunities
