Position Overview
Senior Director, Engineering- Naval Shipbuilding is responsible for the oversight, coordination and execution of the various HDUSA shipbuilding related technical pursuits, programs, products and strategic initiatives. In addition, the Senior Director, Engineering manages the career development, growth, training and execution of the HDUSA shipbuilding related workforce.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses HDUSA technical needs informed by HDUSA strategy documents, business plans, and stakeholder feedback.
- Develops and implements plans to achieve HDUSA’s technical needs.
- Instills rigor, agility and resilience into the engineering team, enabling HDUSA’s growth across multiple programs at multiple locations.
- Puts controls in place to monitor and achieve cost, schedule and performance goals in the execution of technical scope.
- Implements a training and retention plan that attracts, advances and retains talent.
- Regularly communicates with customers/clients to arrange meetings, status ongoing efforts, pursue future efforts and mitigate risk/retire issues as necessary.
- Liaises with Hanwha Ocean as necessary to take advantage of technical synergies and expertise. Engagements will be accomplished in accordance with HDUSA policy.
- Regularly communicates with leadership regarding all aspects of HDUSA’s technical performance and health. Highlights risks, issues and associated actions being taken.
- Identifies opportunities to team and/or acquire firms with shipbuilding technical equities (engineering firms, design tool providers, etc). If pursued, leads the technical aspects of the effort.
- Provides routine status reports for leadership and responds timely to follow up tasking.
- Responsible for customer presentations and interface.

Qualifications/ Experience
- At least fifteen (15) years of related experience
- Three (3) years in technical management required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Understanding of US defense landscape
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Engineering, or other industry-related field required
- MBA preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
- Professional experience in leadership roles.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:

The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
