What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Project Manager position at Hanto + Clarke General Contractors, LLC?
About Hanto Clarke:
- Hanto Clarke is a commercial construction general contractor based in Pensacola, Florida, founded on a simple promise: BUILT ON TRUST. PROVEN BY PERFORMANCE. We deliver quality projects through disciplined people, strong systems, and a culture that is Humble, Hungry, People-Wise, and Fun. We invest in our people and promote from within — and this role is built so you can grow.
Why this role exists:
- The Assistant Project Manager keeps our projects organized, documented, and moving. Reporting to the Area Manager and working alongside the Superintendent, the APM owns the administrative and coordination backbone of the project — submittals, procurement, RFIs, document control, and cost tracking — so the project team can focus on building. This is a development role: the APM is learning the craft of project leadership and growing toward running projects independently.
Key Accountabilities:
- Safety Support - Keep project safety documentation, communication, and compliance organized and current so nothing falls through the cracks. Maintain site safety records, track training and certifications, and help the team stay audit-ready.
- Submittals, Procurement, and Schedule Support - Manage submittals and procurement from log to approval, and flag anything that could impact the schedule before it becomes a problem. Track long-lead items and keep procurement moving ahead of the work.
- Project Administration - Support contracts, RFIs, meeting minutes, document control, and project correspondence. Keep records accurate and accessible so the Superintendent can focus on building.
- Budget Support - Assist with buyout, change tracking, commitment tracking, and cost visibility. Help maintain a clear, current picture of project costs so decisions are made on good numbers.
- Stakeholder Coordination - Support owner and design-team communication and keep subcontractors informed and supported. Make sure the right people have the right information at the right time.
- Development and Leadership - Grow in judgment, ownership, and project leadership while supporting the Area Manager and Superintendent. Take on more responsibility as skills develop, with the goal of leading projects independently over time.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction project administration, project engineering, or a closely related role.
- Working knowledge of submittals, RFIs, procurement, and construction document control.
- Strong organization, written and verbal communication, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass background, drug, and driving-record screening.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with construction project-management software (e.g., Procore, Outbuild, or similar).
- Familiarity with safety documentation and OSHA compliance basics.
Work environment and physical requirements:
- This role is based in the Jacksonville office with regular travel to active jobsites. Jobsite visits require the ability to navigate active construction environments, including walking uneven terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, and wearing required personal protective equipment. Standard office work involves extended periods at a computer.
Compensation and benefits:
- Competitive base salary
- Discretionary bonuses, paid twice a year
- Vehicle and phone allowances
- Company-sponsored medical, plus dental and vision plans
- Simple IRA with a 3% company match
- Company credit card for gas and work-related expenses
- Paid Holidays and Paid time off (PTO)
