Job Description
The Bakery Manager at Hansen’s IGA Market is responsible for overseeing the Bakery Department, ensuring high-quality production, exceptional customer service, and effective team management. This role involves modeling the company's culture, meeting departmental goals, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. The Bakery Manager plays a critical role in leading the team, managing inventory, and ensuring customer satisfaction in a fast-paced grocery setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve customers in the Bakery Department while modeling Hansen’s IGA Market culture and providing best in class customer service.
- Provide consistent, timely and friendly customer service when answering questions, making suggestions and resolving complaints.
- Manage all areas of the Bakery Department, consistently leading by example and applying effective management techniques.
- Oversee weekly production scheduled for the Bakery Department.
- Develop daily production lists to establish department priorities and ensure department needs are met.
- Ensure that the Bakery Department is always full and fresh with the best quality bakery products.
- Maintain department conditions, ensuring shelves are stocked, product is rotated, and the department is clean and well organized.
- Maintain and update weekly reports (purchasing, sanitation and inventory).
- Order inventory based on reports (shrink, overage, expired, etc.).
- Oversee, manage and train associates; including coaching, performance improvement, recognition, 1:1 meetings and feedback.
- Create and maintain schedule, including schedule changes and time-off requests.
- Create attractive Bakery Department displays and end caps based on specific sales for the week.
- Communicate with Store Director/Assistant Store Director regarding department conditions, associate relations, department hiring needs, and other concerns as needed.
- Achieve budgeted financial goals and ensure profitability through tracking of costs/sales and execution of marketing plans, product promotions, and cost control techniques.
- Attend store-level management meetings.
- Assist with cake decorating, baking, bakery production and counter duties as needed.
- Take and fulfill bakery orders via phone and in person.
- Participate in additional training and leadership activities as directed.
- Assist with store promotional sales events as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by enforcing and following all safety/sanitation regulations and procedures.
- Assist with all other Bakery Department duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Bakery equipment.
- Previous bakery and management experience required.
- Ability to successfully lead, coach, train, develop and motivate a team.
- Ability to provide clear direction and delegate responsibilities to a team after determining department needs.
- Strong understanding of department financials and the ability to manage budgets to meet financial goals.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing conditions, priorities and circumstances.
- Ability to maintain composure, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions regarding department needs and priorities.
