What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Assistant (part-time) position at Hanover County Government?
Pamunkey Regional Jail is looking for entry-level candidate to complete routine tasks in the management of Food Services within a Correctional Facility. This position reports to the Food Services Manager and does not supervise employees.

Knowledge of to include but not limited to: FDA nutritional requirements and State Health Department. requirements as it applies to food service and special dietary requirements; ability to utilize recipes and estimate appropriate food amounts; effectively communicate both orally and verbally; ability to calculate quantities of food; read and comprehend documents such as menus, recipes and other pertinent documents.
Education, Experience and Training: Must be at least twenty (20) years of age; High school graduate or equivalent required. Minimum 3 years Food Preparation Experience, required; Prior experience in Corrections and/or Institutional food preparation is preferred. Experience with ordering, purchasing, inventory and receiving is preferred. Sanitation Certification is desired. A combination of education, experience and training equivalent to these requirements may be acceptable.
Special Conditions:
Essential Functions:
• Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment;
• Enforce and follow sanitation and cleaning standards for kitchen operations;
• Ensure food is prepared within timelines, to meet nutritional standards;
• Ensure food meets Department of Health Standards;
• Ensure food served is proportioned correctly and according to direction;
• Responsible for supervising the preparation, cooking and serving of meals in the facility for staff and incarcerated individuals, to include the training of inmate workers;
• Daily, direct contact and supervision of inmates;
• Supervise the use of kitchen equipment in a safe manner;
• Responsible for securing the kitchen facility at the end of each shift;
• Compile and maintain utensil inventory;
• Maintain accurate records as required by governing agencies;
• Responsible for proper storage and use of food.

• May work beyond normal work schedule, on occasion
