What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Care Support Assistant position at Hannibal Regional?
The Patient Care Support Assistant (PCSA) is responsible for providing direct, non-clinical observation and support to assigned patients to promote safety, comfort, and a healing environment. This role may function as a one-to-one sitter, patient safety technician, or transporter in a variety of care settings. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the PCSA helps prevent patient injury, supports basic needs, and promptly reports any changes in patient condition or behavior.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Additional coursework or certification in patient care, behavioral health, or nursing assistance preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Previous healthcare or patient care experience is a plus
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observation and situational awareness skills
- Ability to remain attentive and engaged for extended periods
- Compassion and empathy for patients
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Basic knowledge of patient care practices
