Join Handy Finance – A Leading Australian Fintech Expanding into the US

Handy Finance is one of Australia’s leading fintech companies, built on innovation, customer-first lending solutions, and a mission to make money simple. Following our success in the Australian market, we are now expanding into the United States – and we’re looking for a Head of Risk and Compliance to help manage our risk and compliance operations in Dallas, Texas.

About the Role

As Head of Risk and Compliance, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing Handy Finance’s compliance and risk management framework in the United States. This pivotal leadership role ensures the business operates with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability, while meeting all federal and state regulatory requirements.

You will play a critical role in safeguarding the company’s reputation, managing regulatory relationships, and supporting our ambitious growth in the US market.

What you’ll do

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. federal financial services regulations, including CFPB, OCC, FDIC, FinCEN, and FTC requirements.
  • Maintain the company’s state lending license(s), including renewals, filings, and ongoing compliance obligations.
  • Lead compliance with consumer lending regulations: ECOA, FCRA, TILA, Reg Z, MLA, E-SIGN, UDAAP, Fair Lending, GLBA, and the FTC Safeguards Rule.
  • Manage the Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) program, including customer due diligence, suspicious activity monitoring, and reporting.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, external counsel, and the compliance teams of the partner bank.
  • Ensure compliance with the partner bank’s vendor management and oversight requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement proactive adjustments to policies, procedures, and systems.

Risk Management

  • Develop and oversee the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework, including risk appetite, risk registers, and reporting.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor regulatory, operational, credit, reputational, and third-party/vendor risks.
  • Partner with senior leadership to integrate risk considerations into strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports to the CEO and Board (or Board Risk & Compliance Committee) on key risks, compliance status, and remediation strategies.

Governance

  • Establish and maintain compliance and risk policies, procedures, and reporting systems.
  • Promote a “compliance by design” approach across product, technology, and operations.
  • Provide ongoing compliance and risk training across the US business.

Leadership & Growth

  • Help build and provide leadership within the compliance and risk teams as the company scales.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal teams (Product, Operations, Technology, Marketing, HR) to embed compliance and risk management into daily operations.
  • Represent the company with regulators, auditors, industry associations, and the partner bank.

What you’ll bring

  • 8 years’ compliance, legal, or regulatory experience in financial services, fintech, or banking.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal financial regulations and Texas state licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing compliance frameworks, including BSA/AML programs.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with regulators and auditors.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field (JD, CPA, or CAMS certification preferred).

What we’ll offer

  • Be part of an exciting international expansion, bringing a proven fintech success story into the US.
  • Play a leadership role shaping compliance and risk management from the ground up.
  • Join a culture built on innovation, customer focus, and growth.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, with direct impact on the success of our US launch.

If you’re ready to make your mark with a fast-growing fintech entering the US market, we’d love to hear from you.
