What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinery Shop Tech position at Handy Distribution?

Diagnoses problems and services sheet metal machinery and related metal fabricating machinery through repair and maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Diagnoses functional problems with sheet metal machinery and metal fabricating machinery.
  • Purchases new replacement parts for machinery.
  • Fabricates miscellaneous components (covers, guards, supports, etc.) for machinery.
  • Cleans machinery using pressure washer, steam cleaner, or parts degreaser.
  • Observes all company safety practices and procedures including protective hearing and eyewear.
  • Performs maintenance repairs on customers’ machines and company shop and field equipment.
  • Refurbishes metal fabrication machinery to proper specs.
  • Utilizes tools in a safe, proper, and efficient manner.
  • Presents a professional image to customers as necessary.
  • Required to travel, as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school; or, six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Required to become certified by manufacturer to perform maintenance and repairs to equipment.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Has proven competence in knowledge of tools and overall machinery concepts. Can apply present knowledge to work on Machinery safely and successfully. Maintain shop and shop equipment. Convey uncertain tool status to leadership.
  • Mechanical repair and maintenance experience in a production environment.
  • Ability to repair and demonstrate troubleshooting methods in a timely manner.
  • Understanding, knowledge and experience with machinery equipment.
  • Must be able to perform routine maintenance and setup of machinery.
  • Ability to read manuals, electrical diagrams, drawings and interpret a variety of instructions whether in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to service and perform maintenance on machinery equipment to a high standard.
  • Basic computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use sense of smell.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This role may involve occasional travel to customer locations and requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle. A valid government driver’s license and an acceptable driving record, as determined by company standards and insurer requirements, are required. All vehicles operated for Company purposes must be legally registered with appropriate government authorities. Continued employment in this role may be contingent upon maintaining driving eligibility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The shop/warehouse space is not climate controlled.

Salary : $22 - $24
