Hands of Heartland is looking for compassionate and caring individuals to work with the people we support as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Ord, NE. 

 

About the Role:


The Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Ord, NE plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities by providing compassionate, person-centered care and support. This position focuses on assisting people with daily living activities, promoting independence, and encouraging community integration. The DSP will work closely with the individuals to develop and implement individualized support plans that align with their goals and preferences. Through consistent and respectful interaction, the DSP fosters a safe and nurturing environment that empowers the individuals to achieve their fullest potential. Ultimately, this role contributes to the overall well-being and personal growth of the individuals served, ensuring they lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with valid auto insurance. 
  • Ability to pass background checks as required by state regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions and care plans.
  • Experience is preferred although no experience required. We will train you! 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility.
  • Implement individualized support plans by facilitating skill development, social activities, and community involvement tailored to each individual's needs and interests.
  • Monitor and document individual's progress, behaviors, and any changes in health or well-being, communicating effectively with supervisors and healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive living environment by adhering to health and safety protocols and reporting any concerns promptly.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, family members, and other stakeholders to coordinate care and advocate for the rights and preferences of the individuals served.

Skills:

The required and preferred skills are essential for delivering high-quality, individualized support to clients on a daily basis. Effective communication skills enable the DSP to understand client needs, collaborate with team members, and document progress accurately. Compassion and patience are critical in building trusting relationships and responding appropriately to challenging behaviors or situations. Organizational skills help manage multiple responsibilities, including medication administration and activity planning, ensuring compliance with care plans and safety standards. Additionally, problem-solving abilities and adaptability allow the DSP to respond to changing client needs and emergencies with professionalism and care.

Shifts Needed: Full-time hours. 8a-5p with every other weekend required. Some flexibility with shift hours available. 


Pay:

  • Starting pay is $18 an hour. We pay more for experience and if you have a CNA license. Incentives also available. 
  • We now offer for CNAs to earn CEUs while working as a DSP (thanks to the Nebraska CNA bill we helped champion!).
