Job Summary:
Hands of Healing’s Education Coordinator (EC) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the educational services of youth enrolled in local public schools. This position ensures timely enrollment, appropriate grade placement, records transfer, and continuous monitoring of academic progress and grade-level advancement.
Key responsibilities include coordinating enrollment and school transitions; monitoring academic progress and grade-level advancement, monitoring attendance, grades, testing participation, and overall academic performance; tracking promotion or graduation pathways; coordinating ARD meetings; overseeing implementation of IEPs, Section 504 plans, and English learner services; and maintaining complete, audit-ready educational documentation.
The EC serves as the primary liaison between schools, foster parents, and program staff to ensure consistent communication, alignment of academic expectations, and prompt response to attendance, behavioral, or performance concerns. During summer and school breaks, the Education Coordinator plans and oversees structured educational and enrichment programming, including academic support activities and community engagement events designed to promote continued learning, social development, and school readiness.
This role ensures educational stability, compliance, and measurable academic progress for youth served by the program. This position requires travel within the Valley and may include work hours outside of regular business hours.
At least one year of experience working with youth is required. At least two years of experience working with at-risk students in an academic setting is preferred. Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
All EC are required to promote a positive climate for learning and excellence where students can enhance their developmental growth.
Essential Functions:
- Work as the primary liaison between those that are involved in the student’s education process.
- Support and reinforce structured educational and enrichment programming including vocational and life-skills of students.
- Ensures the educational stability, compliance and sets measurable academic progress goals.
- Implement strategies to meet the academic needs of the individual student being tutored.
- Maintain a good record of student’s academic progress for development of the student.
- Attend all organizational required training and training that will enhance professional growth in the area of Education and/or Vocational curriculum and instruction with pre-approval from program director or designee.
- Attend all departmental and program meetings to ensure that up-to-date information is received and/or information of policy changes or practice are adhered to.
- Must assist in the evacuation of youth as needed due to inclement weather conditions, natural disasters, or other unforeseen occurrences.
- Willing to travel if needed for trainings, conferences or to transport youth to destination if reunified within the U.S.
- Must annually maintain professional or para-professional certifications (as required by Director of Education).
- Always ensure the proper supervision of youth.
- Able to professionally and productively react to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma a must (Secondary education preferred).
- 1-2 years of paid or unpaid experience teaching youth in a bilingual setting preferred.
- Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Word Perfect, Microsoft Word, Excel)
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule.
- Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
- Cleared pre-employment and random drug test results.

- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to obtain and perform Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (EBI)/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors as necessary. Bending, stooping and lifting up to 20lbs required to complete daily tasks. Involves walking and standing for extended periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work is at youth care facility at which minors receive multiple services. Work shifts are subject to change to meet the needs of the program. Predominantly indoors, occasional outdoor monitoring or activities.
