What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wall Panel Designer position at HANCOCK LUMBER CO., INC.?
We are currently fabricating wall panels at our Windham, ME facility. Team members hired now will begin work and training in Windham. In early 2027, we will transition operations to our new wall panel fabrication plant in Oxford, ME. We are seeking individuals who are open to growing with us through this transition and joining our Oxford team long term.

REPORTS TO: General Manager
SUPERVISES: N/A
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Wall Panel Designer supports manufacturing excellence and sales success by combining technical wall panel design with customer-focused sales support. Working closely with Sales, Account Managers, and Production, this role delivers accurate, efficient, and value-added panel solutions that help win projects, increase order value, and support smooth production flow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Safety
- Follow and promote all safety policies and procedures
- Take responsibility for personal and team safety
- Participate in safety huddles and Safety Observation System (SOS)
- Identify and report unsafe conditions and properly use required PPE
2. Design, Sales Support Project Coordination
- Enter and manage projects accurately in wall panel software
- Design wall panel layouts per construction documents and customer needs
- Create efficient, accurate, and manufacturable designs
- Support sales by developing value-added design solutions and assisting with customer discussions
- Deliver designs including proposals quoting, pricing, and production on schedule.
4. Production & Inventory Collaboration
- Coordinate with GM or manufacturing lead to manage inventory, schedules, and design issues
- Ensure designs align with shop capabilities and installation requirements
5.Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in production and management huddles
- Communicate clearly across sales, design, and production teams
- Contribute ideas to improve workflows, systems, and cross-department coordination
6. Professional Standards
- Wear company-provided clothing and represent the company professionally

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of wall panel design, manufacturing processes, construction drawings, and safety practices.
- Skill using wall panel design software, CAD, and office systems
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and support sales and production goals
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented, people-first culture.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- 2–5 years of experience in wall panel design, component manufacturing, construction detailing, or related fields
- Experience with wall panel design software or CAD tools
- Experience collaborating with sales and production teams
- Customer-facing or sales support experience preferred
- Experience in a safety-focused manufacturing environment preferred
REPETITIVE PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lift 25# from floor to waist.
- Sit for long periods of time w/the ability to use a computer and phone.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs.
- Work inside in many environments.
- Riding and driving for long periods of time.
