Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse our team. This role involves providing essential nursing services, health education, and support to diverse populations.. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing, public health, and social work, along with excellent communication skills. The Public Health Nurse will work in our WIC Clinic providing WIC services, Immunization Clinics, Lead Program, Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, as well as on call every 3rd weekend in Home Health.
Duties
- Coordinate direct WIC services to participants
- Complete physical assessments of height, weight, BMI, hemoglobin, and lead status when appropriate
- Be familiar with immunizations schedules and properly administer vaccines
- Conduct health assessments and screenings for individuals and communities to identify health needs and risks.
- Notify families of lead sample results
- Complete records and forms relating to clinic services
- Provide follow-up on client compliance with referrals for treatment/exams.
- Educate providers on IBCCP/LEAD/WIC guideline changes as needed.
- Seeks and obtains sufficient information necessary to function effectively in the health care setting where assigned
- Assess and evaluate patient’s status in Home Health visits
- Provide nursing care, including wound management, medication administration, and health monitoring.
- Educate clients on topics such as nutrition, disease prevention, medication adherence, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN or BSN preferred).
- Experience working with people with disabilities, vulnerable populations, or in social work is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of public health principles, medical terminology, and healthcare practices.
- Excellent communication skills for teaching, public speaking, and motivational interviewing.
- Ability to collect accurate data and maintain detailed records of client interactions.
- Familiarity with Medicare policies, nutrition education, and addiction counseling is a plus.
- Compassionate attitude with a commitment to community service and health promotion.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
