Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Assistant Bookkeeper to join our finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support our accounting operations across various sectors, including corporate, non-profit, and governmental organizations. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, experience with multiple accounting software platforms, and a commitment to accuracy and efficiency. As an integral part of our finance department, the Assistant Bookkeeper will assist with maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and supporting financial reporting processes.
Responsibilities
- Assist with general ledger accounting and account reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial data
- Prepare and post journal entries using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, and others
- Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify account balances
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently
- Support payroll processing and related tax filings as needed
- Maintain accurate records of debits & credits, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards
- Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and financial report writing for internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial data
- Support double entry bookkeeping practices and ensure compliance with relevant financial concepts
- Assist with governmental accounting requirements when applicable
- Perform 10 key typing tasks for data entry accuracy and efficiency
- Collaborate with the team on special projects related to technical accounting or general ledger reconciliation
Requirements
- Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles, double entry bookkeeping, and general ledger accounting
- Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards is a plus
- Familiarity with tax concepts and financial report writing is preferred
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis and balance sheet reconciliation accurately
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in bookkeeping tasks
- Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, journal entries, and budgeting processes
- Proficiency in 10 key typing for efficient data entry
- Effective communication skills to collaborate within a team environment
