Minimum Requirements
- High school graduation or successful completion of GED.
- Minimum of one (1) year work experience in stormwater construction projects required.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the construction, engineering, surveying or related field.
- Considerable knowledge of local and state construction and environmental codes and regulations.
- Some vocational training or college level courses in civil engineering, surveying or related field preferred.
- Training in riparian areas or construction of shoreline structures preferred.
- Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control Certification at time of employment.
- Certification from DEQ for Stormwater Inspector required within one (1) year of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- This position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Requires some duties to be performed outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
