Hampton Roads Community Health Center is seeking an HR Support Specialist to provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department, ensuring efficient execution of HR processes and a positive employee experience. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate employee records, supporting HR systems (HRIS), and assisting with key functions such as benefits administration, leave management and employee relations.
- Serves as a first point of contact for employee inquiries, offering guidance and support on HR policies, procedures, and programs
- Helps to ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and internal policies by performing audits, maintaining documentation, and supporting recordkeeping practices.
- Contributes to HR initiatives and events, such as new hire orientation, HR related training sessions, and employee engagement programs.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, personnel files, and HRIS data.
- Provide administrative support to the HR department, including filing, data entry, document management, and correspondence.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrollments, status changes, and responding to employee questions.
- Process qualifying life events and coordinate COBRA administration.
- Support leave of absence processes and requests (e.g., FMLA, disability, military) including the corresponding documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as organizational policies.
- Assist in updating and maintaining HR documents, including job descriptions and the employee handbook.
- Collaborate with HR team members and leadership to support departmental goals and organizational initiatives.
- Associate’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least 1-2 years of Human Resources experience or related field experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Coursework or training in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related disciplines is desirable.
- Working knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and procedures.
- Understanding of employment laws and regulations (federal, state, and local).
- Proficient in Office Suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) or related software.
- Exemplify and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems and employee data management.
- Knowledge of benefits administration processes, including enrollments and qualifying life events.
- Understanding of leave of absence processes (e.g., FMLA, disability, military leave).
- Awareness of records management, retention practices, and confidentiality standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary : $37,440 - $47,840
