Crisis Counselor – Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Annual Salary: $48,317

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a dedicated full-time Crisis Counselor to join our team in the Crisis Receiving Center located in the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center. In this vital role, you will provide crisis stabilization and support to individuals living with a mental health diagnosis, substance use disorder, or who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CRISIS COUNSELOR
As a Crisis Counselor, you will conduct needs assessments, provide supportive counseling, teach independent living skills, and deliver crisis intervention services to help individuals stabilize and transition successfully into the community. You will monitor and document client progress, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure, and a commitment to providing compassionate care in a team-oriented setting.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A CRISIS COUNSELOR?
To qualify for this position, candidates should have the following:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field) and at least one (1) year of experience providing behavioral health services to adults with serious mental illnesses or emotional impairments.

Must be registered with the Board of Counseling as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or be willing to register as a QMHP-Trainee within 30 days of hire.

Strong documentation and computer skills, the ability to establish rapport quickly with individuals in crisis, and a valid driver's license.
