What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shuttle Van Driver position at Hampton Inn & Suites Houghton?
Part-Time Hotel Shuttle DriverHampton Inn & Suites – Houghton | Houghton, Michigan
Part-Time | Flexible Schedule | Early Morning, Afternoon & Evening Shifts
Do you enjoy driving, meeting new people, and being the friendly face that welcomes someone to town?
Hampton Inn & Suites – Houghton is looking for a dependable, safety-conscious, and personable Shuttle Driver to join our hotel team.
Our Shuttle Drivers do much more than get guests from Point A to Point B. You're often one of the first people our guests meet when they arrive in the area—and sometimes the last person they see before heading home.
We're looking for someone who is a safe and confident driver, enjoys talking with people, knows the area, and takes pride in providing friendly and dependable service.
This can be a great position for someone looking for flexible part-time work, supplemental income, or shorter shifts without committing to a traditional eight-hour workday.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Hotel Shuttle Driver, you'll help our guests get where they need to go safely, comfortably, and on time.
You'll:
- Safely operate the hotel's passenger shuttle while following all traffic laws and hotel safety procedures
- Transport guests to and from the airport and other designated locations
- Welcome guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Assist guests with luggage and with entering or exiting the shuttle when needed
- Provide helpful information about the hotel and local area
- Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready shuttle
- Complete routine vehicle checks and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns
- Communicate with the Front Desk and other hotel team members regarding pickups, drop-offs, delays, and guest needs
- Keep scheduled transportation running safely and on time
- Represent Hampton Inn & Suites professionally whenever you're behind the wheel or interacting with guests
- Assist with other reasonable guest service needs when necessary
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
A great Shuttle Driver isn't just a good driver. We're looking for someone our guests and hotel team can count on.
Our ideal team member:
- Is dependable and understands the importance of being on time
- Is a safe, responsible, and confident driver
- Enjoys meeting and talking with people
- Is friendly, professional, and helpful with guests
- Can work independently without constant supervision
- Communicates well with the Front Desk and other team members
- Is comfortable helping guests with luggage
- Knows the Houghton area or is willing to learn it
- Takes pride in keeping their vehicle clean and presentable
- Remains calm and makes good decisions when weather, traffic, or schedules don't go exactly as planned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the hotel's driving-record requirements
- Safe and responsible driving history required
- Previous shuttle, delivery, transportation, commercial driving, or professional driving experience is preferred, but not required
- Familiarity with Houghton and the surrounding area is helpful
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Ability to safely lift and handle guest luggage and other items as needed
- Ability to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on transportation needs
SCHEDULE
This is a flexible part-time position, and hours may vary from month to month based on hotel and guest transportation needs.
Most shifts occur in shorter blocks rather than traditional eight-hour shifts. Typical transportation times include:
- Early mornings: approximately 5:00–9:00 AM
- Late afternoons/early evenings: approximately 1:00–5:00 PM
- Late evenings: after 10:00 PM
Many shifts may be approximately two hours at a time, making this a good fit for someone looking for supplemental income or flexible work that can fit around other commitments.
Because our hotel operates seven days a week, some weekend and holiday availability is required.
PERKS
- Flexible part-time schedule
- Paid sick time
- Substantially discounted team member room rates at Hampton Inn and Hilton properties worldwide
- Opportunity to meet people from around the country and help introduce them to the Houghton area
- A position with independence and variety rather than spending your entire shift in one place
SOUND LIKE YOU?
If you're a safe driver who enjoys people, knows how important reliability is, and likes the idea of flexible, shorter shifts, we'd like to meet you.
You don't need professional driving experience to be successful here. A safe driving record, dependability, good judgment, and the ability to make our guests feel welcome matter most.
