Hampton-Dumont CSD and CAL CSD have an anticipated opening of a shared Teacher Librarian for the 24-25 school year effective November 15, 2024.
Candidates must be endorsed as a teacher librarian by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or willingness to obtain the proper certification. Those with former experience as a public librarian may be eligible and encouraged to apply. Position opened until filled.
Job Summary:
The Teacher Librarian is responsible for managing the school library programs district wide at Hampton-Dumont CSD and CAL CSD, promoting literacy and a love for reading, and supporting the educational curriculum. This position collaborates with teachers, students, and parents to foster an engaging learning environment and to enhance information literacy skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Library Management:
Oversee the daily operations of the school libraries.
Manage the library collection, including selection, acquisition, cataloging, and maintenance of books and resources.
Ensure the library is a welcoming and accessible space for all students and staff.
Instructional Support:
Collaborate with teachers to design and implement instructional activities that integrate information literacy and technology.
Provide guidance in research methodologies, critical thinking, and digital citizenship.
Conduct information literacy sessions for students.
Literacy Promotion:
Develop and promote reading programs and events to encourage student engagement with literature.
Recommend age-appropriate books and resources to students and staff.
Technology Integration:
Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in education.
Support the integration of technology into the curriculum and provide training to staff and students as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with educators to enhance curriculum delivery.
Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding library resources and services.
Participate in professional development and stay informed about best practices in library science and education.
