What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Supervisor - Evenings position at Hampton Behavioral Health Center?
The successful candidate for the Nursing Supervisor position will be motivational, encouraging and self sufficient. This is a Nursing position that requires you to have strong leadership skills and the ability to make rapid decisions. In this role you are required to ensure that quality nursing services are rendered to patients in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and standards of the Nursing Department and the hospital. You will act as a resource for the entire facility on the Evening Shift and be required to supervise Nursing Department staff as well as other departments in carrying out their responsibilities. You will be required to coordinates activities among nursing units and other departments and to assist the Admissions Department when necessary. This position will be every other weekend, 4 days a week and the hours will be 4PM- 12 PM
Essential Functions
- Works with head nurse to determine the optimal allocation of staff for the shift on each unit.
- Coordinates the care of patients on assigned shift. Communicates shifts concerns by unit to appropriate staff (via e-mails, voice mail, etc.).
- Receives report from off-going supervisor (staffing and patient concerns) and gives report to oncoming supervisor.
- Serves as administrative authority for the smooth function of all units on assigned shift. Notifies administrator and Director of Nursing of urgent concerns during the shift. When the concern is non-urgent, notifies manager by phone message or e-mail.
- Receives employee, resident and family grievances and completes appropriate forms and refers information to appropriate Manager.
- Assists in survey compliance, quality assurance and staff development duties, as assigned. Notifies DON and staff development coordinator of identified learning needs.
- Works with DON to complete evaluations for employees on shift. Presents evaluations to staff.
- Along with HR, counsels employees as needed, completes appropriate documentation and communicates with DON
- Receives documents and fills employee call-outs as needed. Notifies managers/supervisors of call-offs in their units in person or via voice mail. Replaces absences and vacancies for upcoming shift(s).
- Provides clinical expertise in the management of medical and psychiatric emergencies.
- Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis and behavior management techniques.
- Must have strong leadership skills, initiative, good judgment and dependability.
- Must have good communication and problem-solving skills.
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN or BS in health related field required
- Current RN licensure in New Jersey and BLS certification required
- ANCC Certification in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing preferred
- Minimum of two years experience in treatment of psychiatric patients, and at least on year experience in a nursing supervisory role.
