Job Summary

The Dental Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered dental care for patients of all ages in a community-based setting. This position works closely with dentists and the dental team to ensure efficient clinical operations, exceptional patient experiences, and adherence to all infection control and safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Chairside Assistance: Support dental providers during procedures by preparing instruments, passing materials, taking digital X-rays, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Infection Control: Maintain strict adherence to sterilization and disinfection protocols, following Hamilton’s Infection Control Policy to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Patient Support: Prepare patients for treatment, collect health histories, and provide pre- and post-operative instructions to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely electronic dental records, including treatment notes, radiographs, consent forms, and referrals.
  • Laboratory & Impressions: Take preliminary impressions, pour models, and prepare lab cases with proper documentation.
  • Supply Management: Order and restock dental supplies, ensuring operatories remain clean, organized, and fully equipped.
  • Administrative & Team Support: Assist with scheduling coordination, departmental meetings, staff training, and cross-location coverage as needed.
  • Expanded Function (if applicable): EFDAs perform duties consistent with Pennsylvania State Law relating to the EFDA scope of practice.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Certification: DANB certification for radiographs required (or must obtain within 4 months of hire); CPR certification required (or must obtain within 4 months).
  • Experience: One year of chairside dental assisting experience preferred; foundational knowledge expected.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, organization, and teamwork abilities, with a professional and patient-focused demeanor.
  • Compliance: Must pass background checks, including child abuse clearance, and be able to work in a community-based and/or school-based clinical environment.
