THIS IS A DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL POSTING OPPORTUNITY. ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE HAMILTON COUNTY MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
THIS POSTING IS FOR TWO (2) VACANCIES.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of high-level construction, maintenance and repair duties relating to such crafts as electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), and/or welding. Provides guidance to skilled craft specialists.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Performs complex troubleshooting and repairs to County facilities and equipment through the application of high-level craft skills, such as electrical, carpentry, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), and/or welding; acquires and/or fabricates parts; may perform layout and design, testing, and inspection of completed work assignments.
Provides oversight and guidance to skilled craftsmen in performance of craft work, workplace safety, blueprint reading, and other general maintenance activities; operates a variety of craft related tools and equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of service manuals and other documentation for their respective crafts and related equipment; usage and operation test equipment and tools.
Knowledge of Hamilton County policies and procedures.
Knowledge of relevant Federal, State and County codes and regulations relating to building maintenance and workplace safety.
Knowledge of County geography, facilities and work sites.
Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Hamilton County policies and procedures.
Skill in working with a variety of tools and equipment; service manuals, engineering specifications and drawings.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff,
other County departments and contractors.
Skill in the performance of craftwork and techniques.
The equivalent of a High School diploma, plus seven (7) years of direct work experience (in any combination) in the areas of electrical, welding, painting, carpentry, plumbing, or HVAC. A valid driver’s license is required.
SAFETY SENSITIVE:
This position has been identified as “safety sensitive” under the definition of 49 CFR Part 40-Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. This position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for the following: 1) post offer pre-employment 2) when there is reasonable cause 3) after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident 4) on a random basis 5) prior to return to duty after suspension and/or 6) as follow-up. This is additional and subject to the Rules and Regulations of The Employee Handbook.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires sustained physical effort in all weather environments, involving considerable walking and standing with limited sitting. Driving a county truck or van for prolong periods to access work sites, may be required. Must be able to set up and climb ladders/scaffolding, and access bucket trucks using appropriate safety equipment. Ability to access manways, and scuttles, and roof ladders in the performance of work. Ability to walk on sloped surfaces (roofs) with proper safety equipment. Lifting and carrying of 50 fifty pounds is required, as well as bending, crawling/stooping, and overhead arm reaching for prolong periods of time, all in the performance of work. Work environments include areas with dust, such as basements and attics. A valid driver’s license is required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.
Private insurance will be required on any take home vehicle.
