JOB TITLE: Patient Accounting Lead
DEPARTMENT: Business Office
JOB SUMMARY: Maintains and responsible for self-pay statements, industrial/client billing and reconciliation, commercial credits and refunds, and payroll deductions. Supervisors’ customer services staff and patients’ calls and visits, bad debt accounts, PARO/Charity Reclassification, indigent accounts, and self-pay third party vendors liaison. Understand Third-Party Explanation of Benefits. Maintains a professional, courteous, cooperative demeanor in all communications and interactions with all individuals and organizations with whom the Patient Accounting Lead comes into contact. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class II.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and update Bad Debt Accounts
- Maintain, bill, and reconcile Industrial/Client Billing
- Maintain Self-Pay Statements; review all statements over $2500 for patient responsibilities.
- Maintain Self-Pay Payment Arrangements
- Supervise Customer Service Staff, patients’ calls and visits
- Initiates self-pay departmental policies and procedures
- Establishes daily work tasks for staff
- Supervises the duties performed by employees of your assigned area
- Maintain and work Commercial Credits and Refunds
- Maintain and work Indigent AR Follow-up
- File Liens
- Maintain bankruptcy and Death Certifications
- Billing Records Requests from outside parties
- Payroll Deductions
- PARO Reclassification and follow-up with client
- Systems Month End Closing
- Website Access
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
- Liaison between Business Office and Self-pay Third Party Vendors
- Pull Self-pay and bad debt data and reports for leadership and vendors
- Participate in meetings and committees as needed
- Assist CEO/CFO/Directors/Managers with Special Projects as needed
- Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
F. All daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks must be completed in a timely manner.
G. Interfaces with hospital staff and public while maintaining a positive customer relations atmosphere.
H. Handles external communications from customers.
I. Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Healthcare System.
J. Adheres to Hamilton Healthcare System’s Behavioral Standards.
K. Emulates the customer service expectations for Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence.
L. Maintains HIPAA compliance at all times.
M. Abides by the Hamilton Healthcare System Personnel Policy and Employee Handbook.
N. Performs all other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: High school graduate, college preferred.
B. Personal job-related skills: Operation of ten-key adding machine/calculator. Familiar with Windows system for computers, Windows Office Suite (including Word and Excel) and general computer use.
C. Licensure, registry, or certification: None required.
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: Prefer five or more years office experience, preferably in third party payer, understanding on how to read and understand an explanation of benefits. Prefer familiarity with hospital accounting and business office functions.
2. Technical Training: None required.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some bending, stooping, and reaching is required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 20 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions.
